Why choose Elopement in the Algarve?
An elopement photographer in the Algarve gets something a full wedding rarely allows: time to follow the light along the coast without a dinner waiting. The coverage is 5 hours, which is long enough to begin at sunrise on a clifftop, exchange vows or promises somewhere quiet, have a meal, and still make a second location before the heat. It suits couples who want the coast to be the venue and are happy to start early. The photographer plans the order of places around the tide and the sun on your date, so you are never somewhere at the wrong hour.
Where we photograph in the Algarve
Five hours allows two locations, sometimes three if they are close, and you will want to choose them rather than see everything. A common shape is sunrise at Ponta da Piedade, where the clifftop and, at low tide, the platform at the bottom give the strongest coastal frames, followed by somewhere calmer for the vows. Praia da Marinha lies between Lagos and Albufeira, and is worth it early, before the viewpoint fills. Couples who prefer softness to drama can spend the afternoon at the Ria Formosa near Tavira, flat and quiet. The cave at Benagil needs a boat and its own booking, and is better treated as an optional extra.
The best time in the Algarve
Start early. A sunrise beginning gives you the cliffs in the best light with almost no one on them, and by the time it gets hot you are moving to shade or to lunch. In summer, a late afternoon start running into dusk is the alternative. For an elopement the best months are October and early November, with warm water and quiet coast, or February if you would rather have cool air, almond trees in flower and the coast nearly empty. A rough winter day can produce the most memorable photographs of all.
What does the package include?

FAQ — Elopement in the Algarve
Is an elopement in the Algarve legally a marriage?
It can be either. Some couples marry at home and use the day here as a symbolic ceremony; others do a civil marriage through a Portuguese Conservatória do Registo Civil, which needs documents prepared in advance. Decide which before booking anything else, since it shapes the day’s timetable.
Can a few friends or family members come along?
Yes, up to about a dozen people fits the style and the locations. A larger group is harder to move between spots and needs more parking, so with guests the plan usually keeps to two places close together. The photographer suggests an order that keeps everyone comfortable.
Do we need a permit to hold a small ceremony on a beach?
It depends on what the ceremony involves, and this page will not guess at a rule. Two people exchanging words with a photographer nearby is a very different thing from an officiant, chairs, music and an arch. Describe your plan when booking, and the requirements for that beach on that date are checked before anything is confirmed to you.
