Where we photograph in the Algarve
The Ria Formosa near Tavira is the easiest choice for young children: level paths, shallow water and salt pans, very few people, and no drop anywhere. Older children who can follow a rule about edges can manage the clifftop path above Ponta da Piedade, where there is room to walk well back from the fencing and still have the stacks behind you. Praia da Marinha photographs best from above, which is not ideal with toddlers; if it matters to you, the frame is made quickly from a safe point and the playing happens elsewhere. Wherever you choose, it is one location, close to where you are staying. A family with teenagers can also do well at Praia da Marinha early in the morning, where older children tend to enjoy the clifftop path and the view gives them something to look at other than the camera.
The best time in the Algarve
Early morning, almost without exception. In July and August the light turns flat and the sand gets hot soon after breakfast, and children who were happy at eight are done by ten. Outside summer you can push later, and in October or early November a mid-morning start still gives soft light and a quiet beach. The Ria is the exception: late afternoon at high tide looks best there, and suits older children who will not miss a nap. Tell the photographer your children’s ages and routine when booking.

Can the grandparents join if they cannot manage stairs?
Yes, and it shapes the choice of spot. The Ria Formosa paths are flat and short from where you park. Ponta da Piedade has a long stairway down to the water, so in that case the photographs are made along the top only. Mention any mobility limits when booking so the location fits everyone.
Should we bring swimwear or keep everyone dressed?
Keep everyone dressed for the photographs and have swimwear in the car for afterwards. Soft, coordinated colours rather than matching outfits read better against sand and stone. Bare feet are fine on the beach and at the Ria; trainers are better on the clifftop path.
How long after the session will we see the photographs?
You get a private gallery within 48–72h, which in practice means you can see them and share them with relatives while you are still on holiday. Each image comes in full resolution for printing and in a smaller size for messages.
