Why choose Elopement in Sintra?

An elopement in Sintra suits couples who want the setting to carry the day rather than the guest list. With 5 hours of coverage there is time to do it properly: vows somewhere that feels private, then portraits as the light shifts, with no timetable dictated by a venue or a hundred guests. The forest above the town is the natural stage, enclosed and quiet even in season, and it costs nothing to stand in. It is also one of very few places near Lisbon where an elopement can feel genuinely remote while staying within easy reach of the city.

Where we photograph in Sintra

Two locations, in sequence, fit comfortably into the coverage. Start in the woodland along the road to Peninha, where a quiet spot off the tarmac can serve for the ceremony and the trees give privacy for vows read aloud. Then drive the twenty minutes to Cabo da Roca to finish the day on a high, open headland over the Atlantic, as different from the forest as anything could be. Both are public and free. If you want one of the palaces as well, that means authorisation from Parques de Sintra or Regaleira; it is possible for an elopement, but it is planned first, and Pena’s timed entry then sets your schedule.

The best time in Sintra

The structure works best as afternoon into evening. Reach the forest in the early afternoon, while the light under the canopy is even, then move west in time for sunset at the cape. In the cooler months the alternative is a dawn start for the mist, staying in the woods and finishing before midday. July and August are crowded around the village, so an elopement in those months belongs at either end of the day. Spring and autumn give the most room to choose.

What does the package include?

The package in Sintra covers: 200 retouched photographs; Five hours of coverage; Locations scouted for the hour you are there; Private gallery within two weeks. Nothing is added to the price after the session.

FAQ — Elopement in Sintra

Is a ceremony in the forest legal?

A symbolic ceremony among a handful of people on a public road is not the kind of event the palace authorisations deal with. The legal marriage is a separate step, done at a civil registry (Conservatória), before or after. Some couples sign the paperwork at home and say their vows here. If you want both in Portugal, start the legal process early; the photographer will work around whichever plan you settle on.

How many guests can we bring?

Up to a dozen works well in both places. The forest has room for a small circle off the road, and Cabo da Roca is open ground. Beyond that it begins to feel like a wedding, with cars to park and people to manage, and full wedding coverage is the better fit. Give us the number when booking and we will suggest the spot and an arrival time.

What should we wear for the wind at the cape?

Something that looks good in motion. A veil or long train will blow sideways, which is beautiful if you expect it and maddening if you do not. Bring a warm layer that works on camera, as the headland is cold at sunset even in summer, plus shoes you can walk in on uneven ground. Switch shoes in the car if you want heels for the vows.
