Why choose Wedding in the Algarve?
A wedding photographer in the Algarve has to plan around two things that do not appear in the order of service: when the light goes low and where the sea will be at that moment. The coverage is 10 hours, from getting ready to the first part of the party, and it follows your day rather than the other way round. What makes the difference here is the portrait slot. Agreeing where the two of you go for twenty minutes before dinner, and checking that the tide and light suit it on your date, is done weeks ahead in the timing plan, not improvised on the day. Couples who live elsewhere in Europe and marry here tend to ask the same first question: how much of the day can actually be by the water. The honest answer depends on the venue’s distance to the coast and the tide at portrait time, and both are known weeks in advance.
Where we photograph in the Algarve
Your venue is your choice and this page does not recommend one. What the photographer adds is the portrait location nearby. If the venue sits on the coast, the best frames are often within a few minutes’ walk, on a clifftop path well back from the edge. If it is inland, a short drive to the coast for portraits is possible but takes guests’ time, so many couples prefer to use the venue grounds and keep the sea for an extra session another day. Ponta da Piedade, Praia da Marinha and the Ria Formosa are all realistic if they are close to where you marry. The Benagil cave is not a wedding portrait location.
The best time in the Algarve
From June to September, everything that matters for photographs should happen after five in the afternoon. The middle of the day here is vertical light and heat, which shows in faces, in flowers and in guests. The months that work best for a coastal wedding are September and October, when evenings are warm and the beaches empty out. May and June are also good, with longer days. Winter weddings are rarer but can be beautiful, with low light all afternoon and a sea that is more dramatic than in summer.

FAQ — Wedding in the Algarve
Do you need to see our venue before the day?
The timing plan agreed a month before covers the venue in detail: where the ceremony faces, where the sun sets, which rooms have light for getting ready. If the photographer has not worked there, a short visit is arranged when practical, and you share floor plans or photos otherwise.
What if the levante makes the sky white on our wedding day?
The hot easterly comes for a few days at a time in high summer and turns the sky milky. It flattens distant views but gives soft, even light on faces, which is no bad thing for a wedding. The plan simply leans on closer frames and the venue rather than a wide coastal sunset.
Can we do portraits on the beach in our wedding clothes?
Yes, if the beach is close and the tide is right at that hour; the photographer checks both when the plan is drawn up. Expect sand on the dress hem and allow a little time to get down and back. A clifftop path often gives the same view with none of the cleaning afterwards.
