Where we photograph in Coimbra
Ceremony and reception venues are yours to choose; we work wherever they are, in the city or in the surrounding areas we cover. For the portraits, the far bank of the Mondego at Parque Verde gives the defining image: the two of you in front of the whole old town, tower at the top, lit by the evening sun. It is a public park, so no permit and no ticket. If the ceremony is in the old town, the Escadas Monumentais give a granite stair broad enough to arrange a large group shot of the guests. The Paço das Escolas terrace requires the university’s authorisation for anything beyond a visitor’s photo; if it matters to you, ask early and we will tell you what is needed.
The best time in Coimbra
Plan the portraits for the hour before sunset and work the timing plan backwards from it. In May and June that is late, which fits a reception well; in September and October it falls earlier and the light is softer. Avoid the Queima das Fitas week in May: the city is full, accommodation for guests becomes hard to find, and the streets around the university belong to the students. The Latada in October is lighter but still worth checking against your date. Outside those two weeks, Coimbra is quiet.

Usually, and it is what most couples choose. The timing plan we agree a month before sets aside twenty to thirty minutes for it, ideally near sunset. If the reception is out of town, we look at whether the riverside fits on the way or whether a short portrait walk near the venue makes more sense.
Our guests are coming from abroad. Is Coimbra easy for them to reach?
Coimbra sits between Lisbon and Porto, so most guests fly into one of those and continue by train or car. For the photographs, what matters is that the timing plan has room for late arrivals; we build in buffer around the ceremony start.
