A holiday photoshoot in Lisbon has to fit around everything else you came to do: the trams, the custard tarts, the long lunch, the museum someone in the group insisted on. So it takes 30 min out of one day, in one neighbourhood, at the one hour that neighbourhood is at its best. It is designed for groups as much as couples — a family on a half-term trip, three friends on a long weekend, parents and grown-up children travelling together for the first time in years. The result is 15–20 retouched photographs of you all in the city rather than the usual run of one person missing from every frame because they were holding the phone.
Where we photograph in Lisbon
For a group on holiday, Belém is often the most practical answer. It is a twenty-minute tram ride from the centre, flat and wide enough for a whole family to stand together, and you were probably going there anyway — so the session is the start of the day out. Arrive before eight, photograph outside the Jerónimos and along the river to the Padrão, then carry on with the day. If you are staying in the old centre and would rather not travel, Praça do Comércio gives the same open, level space and river light at sunrise or just after sunset, with the arcades for shade. The hilltop viewpoints are better for two than for six; with a bigger group you spend the session negotiating a narrow wall.
The best time in Lisbon
Early on a weekday, ideally, or just after sunset at the square. October and November are the best holiday months for photographs here, with low light and few people; spring is less predictable but quieter still. In summer, start before eight at Belém or the crowds arrive with the coaches. If your trip falls in August, the session still works but only at dawn — by mid-morning the heat and the queues make it a different, worse day.

FAQ — Holiday session in Lisbon
Can the session fit around the time we have booked to visit the monastery?
Yes, and that is a good way to do it. The session happens outside, before the busy part of the day, and then you go in at whatever time you have booked. The inside is a separate matter with its own tickets and rules, and photography inside is not part of this session.
Our teenagers hate photographs. Any advice?
Keep it short and tell them it is short — it genuinely is. The photographer gives them something to do rather than asking for a smile: walk ahead, race a sibling to the river wall, argue about where to have lunch. Most teenagers relax once they realise nobody is going to arrange their hands. Promising breakfast straight afterwards in Belém does no harm either.
We are only in Lisbon for a weekend. Is that enough notice?
Often, yes, especially outside the summer months and for an early slot. Book as soon as your dates are fixed and offer more than one morning, which makes it much easier to match you with a photographer. The images arrive within 48h, so you can look through them, and send them to the people who stayed at home, before your flight back.
