The best time in Coimbra
Build the timetable around two pockets of good light, early on the slope and late by the water, and park the ceremony, the meal or a siesta in the flat glare between them. April to June and September to October give the kindest mix of warmth and softness, October especially. Strike the May student festival off the calendar; the noise and crowds work against an intimate day. A Tuesday is quieter than a Saturday.

Does it have to be a legal ceremony?
No. Plenty of couples sign the papers at home or at a registry office and keep the day in Coimbra for a symbolic ceremony, vows read on the riverbank or a quiet blessing. The photographs are the same either way. If you do want the legal ceremony in Portugal, start the paperwork early and ask us for the outline before you book.
Can we include somewhere outside the city?
Yes. Five hours allows one trip to somewhere nearby, such as the hills around Lousã or the coast at Figueira da Foz, both in the areas we cover. The photographer will tell you honestly how much travel time costs in photographs and whether it is worth it at the hour you have.
What if the weather turns on the day?
With five hours there is time for a shower to blow over, and a sheltered option is agreed with the photographer beforehand. Mist sitting on the Mondego can look wonderful. A downpour reshuffles the running order; it does not cancel the photographs.
