The strongest single frame in the city is from across the water. Cross to Parque Verde, on the opposite side of the Mondego, and the old town rises behind you in layers, roofs and walls climbing towards the bell tower. Nowhere else fits all of Coimbra into one picture, nobody charges you for standing there, and the path is level enough to walk and talk without watching your feet. Couples who want stone within arm’s reach can swap to the Escadas Monumentais, which give up the panorama in exchange for texture and shade. Choose one; the photographer will use every corner of it.
The best time in Coimbra
Plan to reach the river roughly an hour ahead of sunset. By then the sun sits low in the west and faces the hill, so the town behind you is lit warm and evenly while you are lit from the side. Late September to early November is the kindest window, with mild evenings and an earlier sunset that does not mean waiting until nine. May and June come next, minus the week of the students’ Queima, when graduates in black capes and their visiting families crowd every green corner along the water.

Tell us the place when you book. If it is on the riverbank or the stairway, it fits the session as it is. If it is somewhere else in the old town, the photographer will say honestly whether it works at the hour you have and whether it can replace the default spot inside 30 min, or needs a longer session quoted separately.
Do we need tickets for anything?
Not for the riverbank or the stairway; both are public and free. The exception is the terrace up at the Paço das Escolas, reachable only on a university visitor ticket, where anything beyond holiday snapshots needs a word with the university first. That is why this session defaults to the far bank.
Is the riverside very windy in the evening?
It is an open riverbank, so a breeze is normal and usually helpful, moving hair and a dress a little. On a properly gusty day the photographer works with the trees and the bank behind you as shelter. Bring a hair tie and a layer; October evenings cool quickly once the sun drops.
