Where we photograph in Évora
For most couples the Templo Romano is the answer, photographed from the side the evening sun comes from, as it drops. The rise it stands on means the sky sits behind your heads in many frames, uncluttered, and the fourteen columns give rhythm without demanding attention. The alternative is the Aqueduto da Água de Prata, better for couples who would rather look like they live somewhere than like they are visiting a monument: arches with doorways in them, a lived street, the odd neighbour on a step. Choose one before the day. Praça do Giraldo is a morning square and fits a couple session poorly, because by the time its light is right for you it is also full.
The best time in Évora
April, May and October, in the last hour before sunset, are the reliable answer. In high summer that hour arrives at around eight in the evening and is the only one worth booking, since the afternoon heat makes everybody look tired. Winter evenings are early and short but almost private, and the plain beyond the walls is green then, visible from the temple’s rise. A sunrise slot at the temple is possible too, but there it lights the columns from behind and turns you into silhouettes, which some couples want and most do not expect.

Will there be other tourists at the temple in the evening?
Some, especially on spring weekends; it is an open public square and nobody can be cleared from it. The photographer works the angles that keep passers-by out of frame and uses their gaps. By the last half hour of light the day visitors have mostly gone back to their cars.
We are staying out of town, near Monsaraz. Can we meet there instead?
Monsaraz is within the area the Évora photographers cover, so yes, the session can be held there. Say so when booking and the meeting point is agreed with the confirmation. What the town page describes about the temple and the aqueduct then no longer applies, so we plan the light for that village instead.
Does the half hour include time to relax first?
Yes. The opening minutes are spent walking and talking rather than posing, and little from them is kept; it is how almost every couple starts. The 15–20 images you receive come from what follows, chosen and retouched within 48–72h.
