Your flat, and specifically the room with the best daylight. Lisbon homes vary enormously — a top-floor flat facing the river gets long afternoon light, a ground floor in a narrow street in Alfama or Mouraria may never see direct sun at all — so the photographer asks which way your main windows face and picks the hour accordingly. A bed near a large window is usually the best place for the whole session. The session travels to you across the whole covered area: Lisbon itself, Almada and Seixal across the river, Oeiras, Parque das Nações, Barreiro. If you are staying in a rented flat after a birth abroad, that works too — tell us the address and floor when booking.
The best time in Lisbon
In the first two weeks, when babies still curl up and sleep through most of what happens around them. Within the day, the hour is set by your windows, not by the city: a room facing east is best in the morning, one facing west in the afternoon. Season matters less than usual because the work is indoors, but in high summer avoid the hottest hours if the flat has no air conditioning — a hot baby is an unsettled baby. If the baby is born early or late, the date moves with them.

Our flat is small and dark. Will it still work?
Usually, yes. A newborn needs a surprisingly small patch of good light — one window and a bed or a sofa next to it is enough. Tell the photographer what the rooms are like when booking and they will plan the hour around the brightest one. If the room genuinely has no daylight, they will say so beforehand rather than on the day.
We are on the fourth floor without a lift. Is that a problem?
Not for the photographer, who travels light for home sessions — it is a very common situation in the older parts of Lisbon. Just mention it when booking so they can plan timing around stairs and parking rather than arriving flustered at the door.
Can the session be done in the maternity ward?
We do not plan sessions inside hospitals; their rules are theirs to set and vary from one to another. The session is designed for the first days back at home, which is calmer for everyone, and is booked for a date after you expect to be discharged.
