Why choose Destination wedding in the Azores?
A destination wedding photographer in the Azores gets hired by couples who picked a place partly because it refuses to be predictable. That wildness is part of São Miguel’s pull, and planning must respect it. Coverage runs 12 hours on the day itself plus a scouting visit the day before, which here is far more than ceremony: it is when the photographer confirms which crater is showing, how light falls across your venue, and where portraits retreat if cloud descends. You also receive, in writing and before committing to anything, an answer on what your ceremony legally requires in Portugal, so paperwork never ambushes the plan.
Where we photograph in the Azores
Reception happens at your chosen venue; the scouting day settles everything else. If the wedding forecast looks kind, a portrait detour to Lagoa do Fogo or the Sete Cidades rim makes sense, depending on which lies nearer and which shows clear the afternoon before. If not, Furnas is the reliable substitute, its steam and greenery flattering a wedding party far more than a gusty ridge ever could. Guests flying in often turn it into a long weekend, so a welcome evening in Ponta Delgada can be photographed within the coverage when it falls on that same day.
The best time in the Azores
Most couples opt for summer, when weather settles most, and the hop from Lisbon takes a little over two hours for anyone connecting through the capital. June and July lend the island its signature colour, those blue hydrangea hedges. Build the timeline so portraits land in the evening and the scouting visit can still redirect them. Late spring and early autumn can be glorious, but every outdoor moment in those months should carry an indoor twin written alongside it in the plan.
What does the package include?
The package in the Azores covers: 500 retouched photographs; Twelve hours of coverage, plus a scouting visit the day before; A written answer on what your ceremony does and does not require legally; Private gallery within three weeks. Nothing is added to the price after the session.
FAQ — Destination wedding in the Azores
Does the scouting day cost extra?
No. That preceding day is part of the package: twelve hours of coverage on the wedding day plus the scouting visit, from €1,900. On São Miguel the visit is where the weather plan gets settled, so it is the element we would least like you to skip or shorten.
Our ceremony is in town. Is it realistic to get crater photographs on the same day?
Sometimes, depending on driving time and cloud. A portrait run to a crater carves a chunk out of the afternoon, so it works best with a small wedding party and a relaxed reception start. If the crater is buried on the day, plans fall back to Furnas or the venue itself. Some couples arrange a separate session on a bright day instead.
Our guests are flying in from several countries and have never met. How do you photograph that?
From early in the day, while people are still arriving and introducing themselves, which is often where the warmest candid frames hide. Family groups get agreed as a list beforehand and run briskly after the ceremony. With 500 retouched photographs across the day, every branch of both families gets its share.
