Why choose Family session in Comporta?
A family photoshoot in Comporta suits the way children actually behave on holiday. They run, dig, fall over in soft sand and get up again, and the beach here is long and empty enough that nobody needs to call them back. That gives the photographer a better half-hour than any posed group on a promenade could. Families who come here tend to stay a week or more in a rented house, so the session can wait for the evening when everyone is rested, rather than being squeezed into the one free slot of a city break. The photographs end up looking like the holiday, not like an appointment.
Where we photograph in Comporta
For most families the beach is the place: over the dune and straight out onto open sand, where toddlers can be let go and older children can race the edge of the water. The space keeps them in frame without anyone else wandering through. With very small children, or on a blowy day, the pine woods near Melides are kinder — the ground is flat and soft, the trees take the wind, and the shade keeps faces cooler. The paddies are less useful for a family: most of the session would be spent stopping a three-year-old from heading off the road toward the water.
The best time in Comporta
The beach faces west, so it is really an evening place, and the last hour before sunset is when it photographs best. With babies and toddlers that may sit too close to bedtime in June, when the sun goes down late; in that case use the pines in the early morning, before the heat and before the nap, when a low sun reaches between the trunks. September is the easiest month for families with children not yet in school: warm water, a quiet shore, and evenings that end at a sensible hour for small people.
What does the package include?

FAQ — Family session in Comporta
Can grandparents come down to the beach too?
They can, but the boardwalk and then soft sand add up to a real walk for anyone unsteady. If someone needs a short, level approach, choose the pine tracks instead: the car can stop close by and the ground is firm enough for a stick. Mention it when booking so the spot is picked with that in mind.
What should everyone wear on the sand?
Colours that sit near each other rather than identical outfits, and nothing that drags: long hems collect sand and seawater. Bare feet look natural on the beach, so leave shoes at the top of the dune. For the pines, light trainers are wiser, as the ground carries cones and needles.
Our children will be in swimwear all day. Should they change?
For a few frames swimwear is fine and very honest about the holiday, but over the full 30 min a light shirt or dress gives you pictures you will want to frame. Bring a towel and a change: someone will end up in the water, and that is often the best photograph of the set.
