The old town around the Sé is level enough in places and has warm, reflected light late in the day, but it is busier, which some people find harder when they feel self-conscious. Indoors, whichever room catches the most daylight becomes the set, and being able to sink into your own armchair between frames is worth a great deal near the end.
The best time in Braga
Bodies photograph best, and still feel manageable, somewhere between week 30 and week 36; get in touch around week 26 so a date can be picked comfortably inside that stretch. Outdoors, mornings are kinder to swollen ankles and the hill is quieter, especially on weekdays. From November to March the Minho weather makes the home session the steadier plan, since rain cannot cancel it. FAQ — Maternity session in Braga
My husband hates cameras. Does he have to be in it?
He does not, though a handful of frames together are usually worth persuading him for. Plenty of people loosen up with someone beside them, and a reluctant partner relaxes once he realises he is needed for five minutes rather than thirty. A running order that works: you alone first, then the two of you, then an older sibling if there is one, all inside 30 min.
Is midsummer in Braga too hot to be photographed outside?
Inland, summer afternoons can be uncomfortable in the last trimester, so outdoors in those months means an early-morning start, ideally under the trees at Bom Jesus, where it stays cooler. A home session avoids the question completely and is no less complete: the same number of retouched photographs, just a different setting.
Is there a way up to the sanctuary that avoids the steps?
The funicular runs up beside the stairway, and the top can also be reached by road. Plan to arrive before the session starts so you are rested, and meet the photographer at the upper terrace. The photographer chooses frames on that level, so no climbing is needed at any point.
