Why choose Restaurant & food in the Douro?

A food photographer in the Douro works for kitchens with an unusual advantage: the wine list is the region itself. Restaurants in Pinhão, Régua and Lamego, quinta dining rooms that serve lunch to visitors, and tasting rooms with a short menu all sell an experience as much as a plate. The pictures need to show both — the dish, and the room or terrace where it is eaten. This session covers a menu in a single service, 3 hours in the room where it is served, using daylight wherever the room allows, and delivers 30 retouched images within 72h.

Where we photograph in the Douro

Your own dining room or terrace, not a borrowed set. The photographer looks for the table with the best side light — usually beside a window but out of direct sun — and builds the dish frames there. A few wider images show the room with the slopes or the river beyond, because that view is part of what guests pay for. If you serve on an open terrace, shade in the morning or late afternoon works better than midday glare. Where an estate’s kitchen and tasting room are in separate buildings, choose one; moving between them halves the session.

The best time in the Douro

Shoot outside service, ideally late morning before lunch, when the kitchen is prepared but not under pressure. Your menu suggests the date: late October catches autumn produce and the leaves changing outside the window; spring suits a lighter menu. The harvest weeks are busy for anyone serving visitors, so the team may have little attention to spare then. Avoid days when you are fully booked; the session needs a free table, steady light and a cook with time.

What does the package include?

The package in the Douro covers: 30 retouched photographs; Up to twelve dishes; Shot on site, in daylight where the room allows; Delivered within 72 hours. Nothing is added to the price after the session.

FAQ — Restaurant & food in the Douro

Should the wine be in the photographs?

For most kitchens here, yes, at least in some frames. A glass and a bottle beside a dish say where you are. Tell us which wines go with which dishes, and the photographer keeps labels sharp or deliberately soft, as you prefer. If a neighbouring estate supplies the wine, check they are happy for the label to appear.

Do we need a food stylist?

Not usually. Your chef plates as for a guest, a little more carefully, and the photographer adjusts angle and light. Keep spare garnish and fresh sauce ready, and send dishes out one at a time so nothing sits waiting and wilting under the camera.

Can we use the photos on menus and in print?

Yes. Images arrive in full resolution suitable for print and in smaller versions for the web and booking sites. If you need a particular shape — a square for social media, a long horizontal for a website header — say so before the day so the photographer composes for it.
