Why choose Restaurant & food in Porto?
A restaurant and food photographer in Porto works by one rule worth stating early: the plates are shot where they are eaten. Your tables, your crockery, your walls in the background, during a single service, so a customer who finds you online recognises the room when they walk in. The city adds its own difficulty. Plenty of dining rooms here sit inside old granite buildings with thick walls and modest windows, and the gap between a flat picture and a convincing one is often a matter of which table is used and at what hour. Three hours covers up to twelve dishes, plus a few frames of the room itself.
Where we photograph in Porto
Everything happens on your premises, whether that is a tasca off the Ribeira or a dining room out in Matosinhos. On arrival the photographer walks the room to find the table with the most useful window, and the dishes come to that table one at a time. Deep, dim rooms are common in the old centre; where daylight cannot reach, the plate is lit, but the result is balanced to look like your room at service, not like a catalogue. A terrace or a river view, if you have one, earns a handful of frames of its own, because it is part of what people book a table for.
The best time in Porto
Plan the shoot for the hours before lunch or the lull between lunch and dinner, when the kitchen can plate for the camera without customers waiting. Daylight is the main tool, so winter pushes it towards midday: by late afternoon in December the windows have gone dark. Summer leaves more room to manoeuvre, but avoid a terrace at full noon, when shadows on the plate turn hard. Telling the photographer which way the dining room faces settles the start time.
What does the package include?
The package in Porto covers: 30 retouched photographs; Up to twelve dishes; Shot on site, in daylight where the room allows; Delivered within 72 hours. Nothing is added to the price after the session.
FAQ — Restaurant & food in Porto
Should the kitchen cook everything at once or plate dish by dish?
Dish by dish. Each plate goes from the pass to the photographed table while it still looks freshly made, and the next follows when the photographer is ready for it. Agree the order with the kitchen beforehand, starting with whatever wilts or melts fastest.
Our dining room is in an old building and quite dark. Is that a problem?
No. Where daylight does not reach, the table is lit, and the edit keeps the colour and mood of your room rather than turning it into a set. Mention it when booking so the right equipment comes along on the day.
Can drinks or the wine list be part of the shoot?
Drinks count as items within the twelve, so a cocktail or a glass of port can replace a dish. A longer menu, a separate drinks programme or staff portraits need more time than 3 hours, and that is quoted before you book.
